‘Every year has to be about growth’

- Pooja Sharma

Yami Gautam, who turned a year older yesterday, celebrated the day with sister Surilie. Usually, the actor prefers bringing in the special day with her family and close people. “Every year has to be about growth and being a better version of my own self. And I am always excited about what surprises the following year has for me. I am enthusiastic about the coming year,” she says.

Remembering her fondest birthday memories, she says, “It has to be the childhood birthday parties with the most amazing pineapple cakes, sweets and samosas. That age where you can’t wait for everyone to leave, so you can see the presents. There was something so special about being the birthday girl then.”

Talking about the most precious gift she has ever received, the actor says, “I feel the most precious gift is the lesson of life, when you start valuing the time with your loved ones and understand the importance of simplicity. But materialistically, the traditional pahadi ear-rings gifted by my nani (maternal grandmother) is my favourite.”

On the work front, Yami’s last film, Kaabil, co-starring Hrithik Roshan, was a hit at the box office. Ask her if the film changed things for her and if she’s more selective about her choices now, she says, “Kaabil will be one of my most special experiences ever, which transcends the boxoffice success. Playing Supriya (her character) was a wonderful opportunity for me as an actor, and I also had a fantastic team. The respect that Kaabil earned made it even more memorable and an endearing experience for me.”
