Good work is related to being saleable: Arjun

- Prashant Singh

Arjun Kapoor is having a great streak at the box office. His past three films, Ki & Ka (2016) and this year’s Half Girlfriend, and Mubarakan, have been money-spinners, and got critical praise, too. When asked if recovering the investment in a film is imperative for every actor, he says, “Absolutely. You have to recover the money that the producers have invested in you. It’s a creative world, but, at the end of the day, it’s a business too.”

Arjun, whose father is producer Boney Kapoor, also feels that the saleability of an actor goes a long way in relation to the kind of work they want to do. “If I feel I have to do a certain level of work and that I have to team up with directors like Anees Bazmee and Dibakar Banerjee, I need to be a saleable asset. And that’s something only the audience can decide. So, [success] also plays an important role when it comes to the kind of work I aspire to do,” he says.

Would the actor credit such a line of thinking to being a producer’s son? “Of course, undeniably! I’d also give credit to the fact that Anil (Kapoor) chachu has also been that kind of an actor for many years. He has been a very dependable actor. Plus, I’ve seen my father being a producer,” he says.

Arjun adds that whatever an actor does in the first seven to ten years of their career allows them to create content that they want to do later. “If you’ve been consistent in experimenting and pushing the boundaries, you create an equity with the audience as well as with those who invest money in you,” asserts the actor.
