A superhero’s innovative love
Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film shows a new way to express affection
Actor Akshay Kumar seems to have yet another ace up his sleeve with his next soon-to-be released film, PadMan. The trailer of the film that released on December 15 has been much appreciated by both Bollywood stars and fans alike. Besides praising Akshay’s character in the film, the fact that finally there’s a film, which talks about a subject that’s been long considered taboo, has impressed most. But, like director R Balki told us earlier, “PadMan is not just a film with a message, but a family entertainer with songs and a lot of emotions.”
The first song from the film, titled ‘Aaj se teri’ is set to release today. While the term innovation is mostly used in connection with business and commerce, the song signifies that PadMan is convinced of innovation in love. A one of a kind love song — just like the film’s plot — the track brings out the pioneering side of Akshay’s character in the film, who is shown using quirky ways to make his wife (played by Radhika Apte) happy and comfortable. The song is touted as one that will make people smile.
Talking about the number, Akshay says, “I have had the fortune of having some memorable love songs in my career, from ‘Waada raha sanam’ (Khiladi; 1992) to ‘Hans mat pagli’ (Toilet: Ek Prem Katha). But what makes ‘Aaj se teri’ special is the innovation my character brings in love for his wife. After all, ek superhero ki love story hai (it’s the love story of a superhero).”
In fact, the song is very close to the story of the real PadMan, Tamil Nadubased Arunachalam Muruganantham, as he too thought of innovative ideas to keep his wife happy, while he was busy inventing low-cost sanitary napkins for women.
Written and directed by R Balki, the film also stars actor Sonam Kapoor. Produced by Mrs Funnybones Movies, SPE Films India, Kriarj Entertainment, Cape of Good Films and Hope Productions, PadMan will be released worldwide by SPE Films India on January 26, 2018.
