Aishwarya to adopt a stray

- Kavita Awaasthi

An increasing number of celebrities have begun supporting and donating to organisations that concern themselves with animal welfare and rights. Celebrities such as John Abraham and Alia Bhatt have often supported animal welfare initiatives and actor Aishwarya Sakhuja is the latest to join the list. Apparently, she has taken a pledge to raise awareness about stray dogs and cats in the New Year. Aishwarya says, “I love animals. I don’t think most of us understand or know that we need to share our planet with other species equally. I can’t fathom the cruelty that animals suffer. I wish I could open the doors of my house to strays, but my family doesn’t live in Mumbai. And as my husband Rohit and I are constantly travelling, I will not be able to take the responsibility of having a pet at home. So, in my free time, I spend time with strays in the vicinity of my apartment.”

Aishwarya, who was last seen in the sitcom Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai Take 2, is an animal lover and had a dog while growing up. She recently visited a cat café in the city, and says she loved the idea of spending quality time with cats. She says, “After visiting the café, which is home to many strays, I have made my mind to adopt or sponsor a stray at the shelter. I have documented the entire procedure of the adoption process, and I’ll post that on my social media handles, as my motive is to promote the cause. Actors enjoy a certain kind of following on social media, so it’s a good idea to use the platforms to reach out to people who have an inclination towards animals and urge them to adopt strays rather than buy pets.”
