Anurag Kashyap’s last few outings might not have managed to hits bull’s eye at the box-office, but he is super excited about his next film, Mukkabaaz. The movie was the opening film at a film festival in Mumbai, and received a standing ovation. Talking about it, Anurag says, “It was so overwhelming to see this kind of support from people. I just hope the film gets the same treatment from audiences.”

Mukkabaaz stars Vineet Kumar Singh and Zoya Hussain in the lead roles. Vineet plays a boxer in the film, and Anurag says he was quite impressed with how the actor went about his boxing training. “Vineet went beyond anyone’s expectations. He is fighting with real boxers like the Asian defending champions of the country, with no choreography. They are all real bouts in the ring. He is outstanding,” he says.

Anurag also says that it was important to talk about a sport that doesn’t get spoken about often despite consistent victories in the field. He says, “In our country, no sport gets written about except for cricket. Now they have started talking about badminton because of PV Sindhu and some victories, but other than that, what do they talk about?”

A lot of film-makers are attempting remakes or adaptations of regional and world cinema, but Anurag says remakes don’t appeal to him. “I don’t know what works, honestly. As long as we are making films and giving people what they want, it’s okay I guess. I wouldn’t do a remake, but if my company produces a remake, I will be fine. I am not going to tell people what to do and what not to do. Jo trend hai, woh chalta hai,” he says.
