‘The monies spent on digital medium is crazy’
2 017 was a good year for Vivek Oberoi who made his foray into the digital medium with a web series. The show, with cricket as its backdrop, saw Vivek playing one of the protagonists’ role and he received critical acclaim for his performance. Talking about it, he says, “It’s crazy to see the kind of monies being spent on shows on the digital platform. Sometimes, it is almost three to four times more than a film’s budget because here, the budgets are lavish. It is interesting to explore what’s in store with this medium and I am looking forward to the year ahead.”
The show has been renewed for two more seasons and Vivek will shoot for it back-toback. The actor is also happy to experiment with the digital space. “I am super excited about this new digital space which has no boundary or limitation. With the kind of response the show got, we are really looking forward to the year ahead. For the next seasons, they’ve scaled it up and are shooting it in a much bigger manner than the first season and I am supremely excited to start work,” says Vivek.
The actor also says that his role in the web series has helped him meet and interact with a bigger audience.
“Content on the internet has global reach. Everywhere I travel, people come and tell me that they loved my show and they want to know about the next season. They get so involved that they want to know what’s happening with the plot. It’s heartening to see this kind of love and support,” he adds.
