It’s a very rich phase of my life, says Ranveer Singh

Throughout 2017, Ranveer Singh — along with Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor — shot for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama, Padmavati (now titled Padmaavat). But the film didn’t release as planned, due to the objections raised by the Rajput community.

Now, it has been greenlighted for a release later this month. Ranveer, on his part, feels that “whatever happened was unfortunate”. “Nothing was in my hands. I did what I could, and that was to do the best when it came to my performance,” he told us in an interview recently.

The “only thing” that Ranveer “really feels bad” for is the film’s team. “From the lead actors to the light men, everyone has put so much toil into [the film]. So, it’s very unfortunate that this had to happen. People have invested so much of their heart, soul and life into this film,” he says.

Now, with the dark clouds blown away, Ranveer hopes that Padmaavat turns out to be a “great” film. “When it releases, hopefully, it will be a memorable movie,” he says, “something that our industry and people of our country can be proud of; and that people can say, ‘here is India making world-class cinema as well’.”

Ranveer will also shoot for Rohit Shetty’s Simmba this year but first, he has to finish Gully Boy. He says, “I used to literally manifest that one day, I’ll work with Rohit sir, and it’s happening. It feels great that all of it will happen in the same year, on the back of Padmaavat, which is looking so good.”
