This year looks amazing: Sonakshi

- Pooja Sharma

Sonakshi Sinha has been keeping quite busy. The actor has five films in her kitty at present, and she’s quite excited about the amount of work coming her way.

“Workwise, 2018 is looking amazing,” she says. “Boom Boom In New York and Happy Bhag Jayegi Returns (both comedies) were a lot of fun. Then [there’s] Dabangg 3, when its makers are ready to roll. Two more films are yet to be announced. I want to keep improving and find happiness in what I do.”

Sonakshi is currently in an experimental phase — after a thriller last year, she’ll soon be seen in a stage reality film. It’s not just she who’s open to experimentation, believes the actor, but Bollywood is, too. “I think the industry is going through a phase where risks are accepted,” she says. “It’s a great time to try different things.”

After working with Karan Johar for the first time on Ittefaq, Sonakshi has joined hands with him for a new project. She says, “It’s been a lovely experience. His body of work is illustrious; there’s so much you can learn from him. I like working with people who have an infectious energy.”

Sonakshi plays the lead in the sequel to Happy Bhaag Jayegi (2016), which starred Diana Penty. Was she apprehensive, taking over from another actor? She replies, “I wasn’t apprehensive at all. I really liked the first part and how every character contributed to the laughs. In this one, almost all the characters have been retained. I’ve never worked in such a film.”

While actors often balance mainstream entertainers with contentdriven cinema, some refrain from slapstick comedies when they’re at their peak. Asked if she’d ever do a slapstick comedy, Sonakshi says, “I like anything that makes me laugh. It could be slapstick, or smart, or even really dumb. I’m a jovial person. It doesn’t take much to make me laugh or for me to make others laugh. But when it comes to doing a film, I have one thumb rule — don’t do anything you can’t watch with your family.”
