A STELLAR PERFORMANCE

- Aaditya Shivkumar

For over a thousand people present at Cross Maidan on the evening of February 8th, it was surely a night to remember as the tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain, and Shabir Khan (A sarangi prodigy, the son of the late Ustad Sultan Khan), performed an hour long concert.

The celebrations kick started with a keynote address from the chairperson of the Kala Ghoda Arts Foundation, Manik Davar, that was followed by Ustad Zakir Hussain syncing his beats to Shabir Khan’s rendition of Raag Madhukaus on the sarangi.

The duo also played a melody by Pandit Birju Maharaj that was inspired by an argument between 2 friends, this anecdote was rendered using tabla beats. The tabla maestro also played “Topparan” which depicts the process of a cannon being fired.

Needless to say the audience remained captivated by this performance, as one of the members, said, “It’s beautiful to see a legend up close, especially one who has been renowned since time immemorial in the musical history of the country and will continue to be.”

The event was presented by ŠKODA AUTO, the auto major that has created many icons of the road. Just like Zakir Hussain’s timeless music and his performances, ŠKODA’s creations have stood the test of time thanks to a commitment towards customer satisfaction and comfort.
