ARJUN’S GENDER BENDER INITIATIVE
On the second anniversary of Ki & Ka, Kapoor will start the Bend the Gender Awards, which celebrates people who give their family and partner top priority
Two years ago, Arjun Kapoor earned rave reviews with his portrayal of a ‘house husband’ in R Balki’s Ki & Ka. Now, on April 1, exactly two years since the film was released, the actor will launch a new kind of awards show. Called the Bend the Gender Awards, this campaign celebrates inspiring stories of people who put their partner or family above everything else.
A source close to the development says, “In the film, Arjun’s character chooses to be a homemaker and support his wife and her ambitions. The film challenged prevalent gender roles in Indian society. Now, he has come up with a digital campaign that celebrates people who stand like a rock with their wives and families, and have dedicated their lives to celebrate and support the dreams and ambitions of their partners or families.”
The campaign will be held annually this year onwards. “Arjun will ask people to either nominate or tell inspiring stories of people who have chosen to be the support system for their partners or family. The most inspiring people will get a chance to meet Arjun and he will give them an award at a big event,” the source adds.
When contacted, Arjun confirmed the news, saying, “Ki & Ka is an incredibly special film and it’s extremely close to my heart. The film’s message has stayed with me and I have always wanted to do something to celebrate people who are pillars of strength for their partners or families. Through this campaign, I will get to meet many inspiring people from every corner of the country. It will be an annual property, starting this year, timed with the anniversary of the film.”
