Irrfan bowled us over, say makers of comic thriller
Blackmail, starring Irrfan in an unusual and quirky avatar, hits the cinemas today. Irrfan portrays Dev, who is so engrossed in his work that he can barely make time for his wife. One day, when he decides to surprise her by going home early, he is shocked to find out that his wife is having an affair with her ex-lover. This is when Irrfan decides to blackmail his wife’s lover.
Makers Bhushan Kumar and Abhinay Deo, in fact, feel that Blackmail is Irrfan’s best performance till date. Talking about the National Awardwinning actor, Bhushan Kumar says, “Irrfan left us all bowled over with Hindi Medium last year, but after watching the final cut of Blackmail, we feel he has taken it to another level. Blackmail required Irrfan to play a serious middle-class man while showcasing his quirky side and the actor has delivered the performance of a lifetime.”
This is the first time that director Abhinay Deo has worked with Irrfan. About his experience, Deo says, “While I had complete confidence in Irrfan’s talent, he bowled me over once the camera got rolling. It was an effortless association, as Irrfan had a deep nuanced understanding of the portrayal of Dev.”
Blackmail is being praised by industry veterans such as Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor, among others. It has an ensemble cast of Irrfan, Kirti Kulhari, Divya Dutta, Arunoday Singh, Omi Vaidya, Anuja Sathe, Pradhuman Singh Mall, Gajraj Rao, and many others. Produced by T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and RDP Motion Pictures’ Abhinay Deo, Blackmail releases today.
