Aamir Khan, who has been extensively working for the welfare of small villages in Maharashtra, will be visiting colleges in Pune, Maharashtra on April 20 to urge students for shramdaan (voluntary labour). Aamir has been associated with the Paani foundation for three years and has helped almost a quarter of Maharashtra to conserve and utilise water efficiently.

A source close to the actor says, “Paani Foundation is a non-profit company set up in 2016 by the team of the TV series, Satyamev Jayate to fight drought in rural Maharashtra. Aamir wants students from across the state to volunteer for the cause of water conservation and hence join shramdaan. The actor will be visiting Symbiosis College in Pune along with all other colleges on April 20. Aamir’s initiative of Paani foundation’s Satyameva Jayate Water Cup has grown to achieve what they were set out to, in the last three years. In 2018, over 9000 villages from 75 talukas will be competing for the Water Cup. Because of his phenomenal work in Maharashtra, people from the smallest of villages take Aamir to be a huge inspiration.”

Aamir, who has been shooting for Thugs Of Hindostan has been taking some time off for the foundation along with wife Kiran Rao and will be dedicating two months entirely to look into the work personally. He is keen that students volunteer for one day from their two months holiday to help villages. He would be going to colleges and putting the poster up — urging students to join the movement, address students and interact with them for an hour. After Pune, he will also head to colleges in Mumbai, Nashik and Nagpur.
