Ashwiny to champion for gender equality
Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari has made a mark with her portrayal of strong women characters in her films. And now, she is all set to walk the ramp on April 18 (today) for a cause that is close to her heart – gender equality.
The event will be held in Mumbai and women from different walks of life will be seen walking the ramp. It will highlight the issue of gender equality and have women achievers take to the ramp. According to Ashwiny, she was probably approached by the organisers since she is often spotted wearing saris.
Talking about it, the filmmaker says, “I have never done this ever in my life and I have no idea at all. It is kind of new so it’s exciting but at the same time, it’s for a very good cause so I agreed. When Shaina NC (designer-- politician) met me and asked me to walk the ramp, my first question to her was ‘Are you sure?’ (laughs). But if it’s for a good cause, I would do it even in the future. But having said that, I am more comfortable with directing.”
She continues, “This is for gender equality and that is something I resonate with. I feel that we are all women who have come from normal backgrounds who, with our brains and hard work, decided to do something for the society. It is important to empower every woman to follow her path, without fear”.
