Karan Johar will soon become the first ever Indian filmmaker to have a wax statue at the Madame Tussauds (MT) wax museum. Although the wax figure will be unveiled in Asia, the exact location will be finalised closer to its launch.

A source from Madame Tussauds reveals, “Karan’s has been an extremely popular name that fans and visitors to the attraction have enquired about. The journey for Karan to join the museum has begun, and he has sat with the MT creative directors at Merlin Studios in London on April 12. Karan’s figure will not just be launched in one city, but will head out on tour across Asia to give his many fans across the world a chance to see his wax statue.”

Coincidentally, 2018 is also a special year for Karan, as it marks 20 years since his directorial, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, was released. The Madame Tussauds launch will also coincide with season 15 of Koffee with Karan, which is all set to air in October.

A source from the industry says, “Karan’s talent and career goes well beyond filmmaking. He is an entertaining personality for Madame Tussauds to add to their roster of other iconic international wax figures. The production of this wax figure has begun and it involves a complicated combination of traditional sculpting with modern technology. It will take about six months to make the wax statue.”

Talking about this development, Andre Timmins, a director at IIFA, says, “IIFA holds a special relationship with Madame Tussauds, with the start of our journey and Bollywood figures in 2000. Over the years, with the increasing popularity of Indian cinema, it has been great to see our association grow and bring Bollywood closer to visitors. We are pleased that the attraction is now going to not only feature the first Indian filmmaker but also our first IIFA advisory board member, Karan, as an honoured wax figure at the world renowned attraction.”
