I knew she is a brilliant actor but during the making of the film, I anticipated that she would struggle with Hindi as she has this anglicised image. ABHISHEK SHARMA, DIRECTOR

Having made one of the most talked about debuts in Hindi films, Diana Penty was the subject of discussion when the blockbuster Cocktail (2012) released. A lot was spoken about Diana’s command over the national language as most people assumed she doesn’t speak Hindi at all. But apparently, Diana can not only speak, read and write Hindi, but she even asks for her scripts in Devanagari.

Abhishek Sharma, the director of her recently released film, says, “I have been a huge fan of Diana’s work since I saw her in Happy Bhag Jayegi (2016). I knew that she is a brilliant actor but during the making of the film, I had anticipated that she would struggle with Hindi as she has this anglicised image. I was completely wrong. She has a very good command over the national language, and surprisingly she even reads Hindi in Devanagari script (which is how it is supposed to be read). She asked for the dialogues in Devanagari and never mispronounced a single word. I was pleasantly surprised with her perfect Hindi.”

The actor has also started a new series on Instagram #DianaKiPathshala, where she posts a fun sentence in Hindi for her fans and followers regularly.
