Bharti Singh will turn a year older today and the comedian is expecting a “big surprise” from her husband Harsh Limbachiyaa. She says, “He is planning something and doesn’t want me to find out about it. We might go away for a few days. When I wasn’t married, I used love big birthday bashes, but now I would prefer to have a quiet evening with Harsh. We are usually busy, so being together is special and birthdays are special now, as this is my first birthday post our wedding.” Bharti admits to being crazy about birthdays, and starts planning for her special day, a month in advance. “I hope Harsh has planned something good. Yeh na ho ke kisi dhabe mein hi le jaaye (laughs),” she adds. She says that Harsh loves to spoil her and buys her expensive branded hand bags often. She says, “He likes to buy branded hand bags or purses for me, which I would never buy for myself as I am a kanjoos. I feel, instead of spending so much money on purses, we could use the money for a trip and go somewhere nice. But he wants me to have them because he wants me to have all the good things in life. Once he drove all the way to town to buy a special hand bag for me, even though he hates being stuck in traffic. It felt very special.”

Recalling her birthdays as a child, Bharti says, “We didn’t have a lot of money to spend and couldn’t afford cakes. We would be happy with two pastries, which we would place together and stick a candle on top. Today, when I can get a cake, I don’t feel like having it.”

The comedian says she would prefer to stay at home with her family the whole day and go out with Harsh in the evening. She adds, “Every year, I visit an NGO or an old age home or pet shelters. Harsh and I donate to charities but don’t like talking about it. Spending time with kids at an NGO or senior citizens or pets is rewarding. Smiling faces are a good way to celebrate a birthday. I feel for pets especially as they don’t ask for a lot and can’t let us know what they need. We should do whatever we can to take care of pets.”
