I would love to do a ‘non-funny’ role, says Kiku

Famous for his various roles on The Kapil Sharma Show and Comedy Nights With Kapil, Kiku Sharda will now be seen in a new avatar. The funnyman will co-star along with Chunky Panday and Shreyas Talpade in a naughty comedy in the digital format.

Kiku says, “I believe there is an audience for everything and now the digital space has bloomed. I would have never done something like this on television because I would be reluctant to be naughty on the small screen. I believe the TV is for family audiences. However, I am excited to try it on digital as it’s a new world.” Kiku is “excited” about the narration and the execution as the makers “plan to shoot the show with four cameras and give it a theatre-like feel”.

Though he has established himself in the comedy genre, has he ever thought of doing a serious role on screen? “Wouldn’t call it serious, but I would love to do a non-funny role, though not in a daily soap. There the stories never end. People connect to the characters in daily soaps, which is why the shows continue forever. I would love to explore something online as the digital format has a beginning and an end to their stories,” says Kiku.

Ask him about his good friend Kapil Sharma’s return to television and Kiku says, “I don’t know when he will come back. He will when he wants to. People treat us like a team and perhaps think we talk everyday, which we don’t. But I understand they enquire out of love. I always tell them, ‘when it has to happen (Kapil’s return), it will’. I spoke to him recently and he is good. Maybe he wants to stay away for a while. He will be back soon. Kapil is a fantastic talent, there is no denying that. There are a lot of people waiting for him. I wish him the best. I hope he comes back to TV soon.”
