Janhvi swears by mum, Sridevi’s acting mantra!

- Prashant Singh

She may be just one film old but Janhvi Kapoor is clear about the fact that she wants to experience different worlds as an actor. “I am thankful to God that I got such a great opportunity [in my first film itself],” says the Dhadak star. “In fact, the main idea behind becoming an actor was to play such characters and experience [different] things. As an artiste, I get more attracted towards characters that are distant from my real self. I don’t want to play myself [in films].”

In fact, the 21-year-old readily admits that she wants to learn from her characters and that playing Parthavi [in Dhadak] gave her an opportunity to “grow a lot”. “I hope I continue to get chances to play such roles,” says late Sridevi and producer Boney Kapoor’s daughter, adding that things such as “screen time of a character don’t really make a difference.”

Calling herself a “selfish actor”, Janhvi says she would like [to take up] characters that challenge her. “But you have to create an impact with whatever little you get. If one can leave an impression [in such parts] on audiences and touch their hearts, then there’s nothing like it. That’s what mum [Sridevi] always used to say. She would tell me, ‘it’s never about the kind of role you get... you need to create magic with whatever is given to you’. I hope that I can get to that [stage] one day,” she says.
