Nawazuddin shifts to lighter roles
After playing dark, intense roles that required lots of preparation, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is now gravitating towards lighter roles. The actor’s last release, a web series in which he plays a gangster, did really well, and he has also been prepping for his upcoming biopics on Saadat Hasan Manto and Bal Thackeray. However, the actor will now be stepping into a lighter space with a spate of films in the romance and comedy genre.
A source close to the actor reveals, “Nawazuddin will shoot for three films in different genres without a break. He will be seen opposite a few female actors — Athiya Shetty in Motichoor Chaknachoor; Italian actress Valentina Corti in Tannishtha Chatterjee’s directorial debut; Sanya Malhotra in Photograph; and Rasika Duggal in Nandita Das’s Manto.”
Talking about it, Nawazuddin says, “It’s quite challenging to do intense roles and it can get very emotionally and mentally draining.
However, as an actor, it’s important to be versatile and dabble in a few different genres. Switching from one character to the other is fairly easy for me, because I enjoy the process of getting under the skin of my characters.”
He also confesses that he has wanted to be a part of a love story or a romantic film for a while now, and that these films have come to him at the right time. “I’ve wanted to do lighter roles for some time now, and even in the romantic space, I am glad I’ve got the opportunity.” Most of his upcoming films are being directed by women, which is something he says is purely co-incidental. “My goal as an actor is to work with talented film-makers and I don’t differentiate based on their gender. I’m very happy to be working with such fine
film-makers.”
