I want to show off my acting artillery: Divyendu

- Sreyashi Ghosh sreyashi.ghosh@htlive.com

Actor Divyendu Sharma has had his fair share of hit films so far. His debut in Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011) cast him into the spotlight, and since then, the actor has worked in a number of commercial hits. His latest project, Batti Gul Meter Chalu, sees Divyendu playing the role of a small town guy. Speaking about his role, Divyendu says, “My character in Batti Gul is a nice guy; he’s a boy-next-door and he always believes in taking the right path and doing the right thing. Everything was going great in his life until mounting electricity bills — in the lakhs — led him to take drastic steps. Those bills changed his life,” he adds.

Batti Gul Meter Chalu is the second time Divyendu has worked with director Shree Narayan Singh. “Shree Narayan ji really trusts me as an actor and he’s brilliant to work with. He always gives actors the creative freedom to move around in their roles,” says the Chashme Baddoor (2013) actor.

The actor has explored serious roles since his debut, but he feels there’s a lot left to do and discover. “My next project is a web series in which I’ll again be playing a completely different character in a much darker role. I’ve got a lot of offers, but I’m extremely selective about what I want to work on. I don’t want to be typecast. I really want people to see my artillery as an actor,” Divyendu says, adding that he’s open to working in new genres as well. He says, “I would love to work in a thriller! Sriram Raghavan is the guy for it.”
