A step in the right direction

According to reports, two-wheeler riders form the majority of road accident fatalities in the country. Despite this, many riders ignore even the most basic safety practices, such as wearing a helmet. Wearing a helmet can save your life in the event of an accident. To address this issue, Suzuki Motorcycle India has recently rolled out the #HelmetForLife initiative.

Post the success of Suzuki’s #CaughtWithoutHelmet initiative broadcast through the video and digital media, Suzuki’s next initiative, Helmet For Life, has hit the streets across 15 Indian cities to drive the message home.

The initiative was flaggedoff by commissioner of police, Navi Mumbai, Sanjay Kumar, joint commissioner of police (Traffic), Suresh Mekala, deputy commissioner of police, Sunil Lokhande, assistant commissioner of police (Traffic), Arun Patil and assistant commissioner of police (Wireless), Pradeep Kannalu. Through the campaign, Suzuki Motorcycle has distributed Suzuki Gixxer bikes to the police departments across 15 cities that were covered in the #HelmetForLife campaign — Gurugram, New Delhi, Lucknow, Pune, Surat, Ahmedabad, Dehradun, Hyderabad, Chennai, Calicut, Nagpur, Vijayawada, Bengaluru and Kolkata.

Additionally, Suzuki Motorcycle sent teams fanning out across these cities to interact with riders without helmets. The offenders were educated about the importance of wearing a helmet and were given free full-face helmets in order to encourage them to follow this basic safety norm.

Speaking about the campaign, executive vice president, Suzuki

Motorcycle India, Sajeev Rajasekharan said, “The Helmet For Life initiative is an important step towards triggering a behavioural change among two-wheeler riders. We are grateful to Shri Sanjay Kumar, commissioner of police, Navi Mumbai for joining us in this endeavour. With the Gixxer motorcycles that carry the message of ‘Helmet For Life’ as well as on-ground helmet distribution initiatives, we hope to take the message of safe-riding to maximum number of people in other cities as well.”

The campaign went live in Navi Mumbai on September 10 and is being managed by Haymarket SAC Publishing (India) Private Limited throughout all the participating cities.
