Back in the game
Apart of the fashion industry for 25 years, Anuradha Gupta is back with her new collection at an exhibition in Raintree, a boutique in Bangalore, after a nine year long hiatus. “I got busy with my kids but there was always this emptiness which eventually led me back to it (designing). I started working on the designs about six and a half months back and I went in with no expectations. However, I’ve received a great response. It’s good to be back,” says the designer.
An admirer of fabrics, her latest collection focuses on rich fabrics and embroidery work. “This collection is very fabric-centric and different from my previous collections. I love using georgette, so, I’ve used a lot of that. There is also a lot of Lucknowi embroidery work and delicate sequins. It’s a very spontaneous collection, with a few kaftans and a lot of flowy pieces perfect for the soon approaching festive season,” explains Anuradha.
A believer in responsible and sustainable fashion,
Anuradha stands by the notion that no material should go unused and tries to incorporate them in other pieces. “Fabrics are expensive and there’s no point in them going to waste. It’s simply a form of recycling we do to use leftover fabric and turn them into new pieces. A few items in my collection have been created using these extra fabrics which would otherwise go to waste,” says Anuradha.
On receiving a good response at her Bangalore pop-up, Anuradha plans to host similar exhibitions in Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad. She is already working on her next collection and it’s safe to say she’s back in the game for good.
