While most actors announce their wedding dates months in advance, actor Sucheeta Trivedi of Baa Bahoo Aur Baby fame got married to businessman Nigam Patel in a private ceremony on September 22. She says, “We wanted to keep the wedding low-key and moreover, I wanted to avoid headlines like ‘Sucheeta gets married at 41’. I would have got married at 67, if I felt like it. It isn’t about age as I believe one has to be prepared for marriage. I have been an actor for over 20 years and lived my life on sets.

The day I felt I needed a break and needed someone with me in life is when I thought about marriage. Ours is a comfortable arranged marriage that happened with help of friends and family. It was chat mangani, pat bhya. Like you adjust to new workplace, new co-stars, new sets and production units, one has to adjust in marriage — that was my thought behind taking the plunge.”

The couple got married in Bhavnagar, Gujarat as she wanted a destination wedding with a meaning. The Mere Angne Mein actor says, “I hail from Gujarat though I have lived in Mumbai all my life. I wanted my wedding to be special and that’s why I shopped everything for the wedding in Gujarat. We had a traditional function in Mumbai for extended relatives who couldn’t come to Bhavnagar. I had my close friends attend the wedding.”

Sucheeta admits she doesn’t feel “different yet”. “It has not sunk in yet. It feels good to be married. Maybe when I change my name officially, it will sink in,” she says.
