Rani hopes Hichki will charm Chinese viewers
Actor Rani Mukerji’s performance as Naina Mathur, a school teacher with Tourette syndrome (a nervous system disorder causing involuntary tics), in the film Hichki has got her praise in this country and among overseas audiences.
Now, ahead of the film’s release in China on October 12, Rani starts a seven-day promotional trip there. A huge market for Indian cinema at present, China will see Rani promote her inspiring film in five cities. She says, “Hichki, with its universal story, has connected with so many people across the world and we’re hopeful that the inspiring social message will also connect with audiences in China. Our film is a reflection and a commentary of society at large. It highlights how we all have deficiencies, weaknesses — either physical or in our personalities and in our thinking — and why we need to overcome them to make the world a better place.”
Her work in this film got Rani a standing ovation at the Shanghai International Film Festival, and the Best Actress award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
Rani, who has reached China today, has Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Chengdu on her schedule. She’ll also visit the prestigious Chengdu University as part of this promotional tour. “Social dramas are appreciated by audiences in China and I’m hopeful that my film with resonate there. I’m looking forward to meeting the media and audiences in China and making new friends,” she adds.
