Why does Varun want to slow down? To avoid a burnout and focus more on films

Be it his back-to-back successes or the sheer number of films he has done ever since his bigticket debut (with the 2012 film, Student of the Year), Varun Dhawan has been on a roll. But now, the actor, who is riding high on the success of Sui Dhaaga - Made in India, wants to “slow down a little bit”.

“This year itself, I took on a lot of work, with my last project being Sui Dhaaga. And now, I have Kalank to wrap up. In today’s day and age, there is always a fear of burning out, especially when you are an entertainer and doing a lot of things besides just acting in movies,” says Varun, who also starred in October earlier this year.

The actor is wary of burning out not just because of the number of films he does, but also because of the sheer scale of projects that actors generally take up at a certain stage in their career. “Big films (such as Kalank) take longer to make. That way [if I slow down], I can give more time to a film — maybe even dedicate an entire year,” he says, adding with a laugh, “Right now, I think only Taapsee Pannu and Akshay Kumar are working on [so many] films, going by the number of their releases.”

And when one is doing too many things — read working on too many projects — it is “absolutely possible for [burnout] to happen”, regardless of how well-planned things are, the actor feels. “See, I may be a mauji (fun-loving) at heart, but sooner or later, it (a heavy workload) will get to you,” he states.

Varun completes six years in the industry this year, so does he plan to reveal a completely different side as an actor — a glimpse of which was seen in October? “Honestly, every year is new and comes with uniqueness. Also, people’s tastes change, and so you have got to change with the prevailing demands. If I keep doing the same things, I will get bored, too. So, I’ve wanted to be a part of these stories, but next year, I have to show people another side of mine as an actor,” he says.
