DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY, KEDIA STYLE!
This Navratri, give the kedia a stylish twist, as designers weave their magic introducing some colourful patterns for women
Traditionally worn by men during the nine-day dance celebration of garba and dandiya, the kedia, a colourful pleated top embellished with mirror work and abundant embroidery, seems all set to be redefined this Navratri. This festive season, the kedia style tops are making their way into women’s wardrobes as well. “The kurta pyjama set that is usually meant for men can be worn by women as well. It looks stylish and chic. A plain black or beige kurta pyjama set with gold accessories can make a huge statement. Similarly, the kedia that’s originally meant for men can be worn by women nowadays and it looks gorgeous when teamed with dhoti pants in bright shades,” says fashion designer Chandni Sahi.
From the traditional ghagra choli to the experimental jackets and dhoti pants, the festival has seen it all in the past few years. So what’s new? “The kedia silhouette is comfortable, voluminous and stylish. You will always find the kedia in all our collections With every season, we change the style and pair it differently. In the past, we have teamed it with trousers and dhoti pants, but this time, we wanted to do something more with the shape, to give it a chic cutout,” says fashion designer Natasha J.
The silhouette is being experimented with, and it’s just a twirl away from making a stylish statement on the dance floor. If you look closely, the kedia silhouette does resemble a peplum top and can work as a stylish Indo-western ensemble, when teamed with jeans or cigarette pants. “You can try the kedia top in many different colours and prints, plaid and checked, in monochrome shades and even pastel shades. For the festive season, try bright colours,” says fashion designer Punit Balana, adding, “The top can be used over denims, it can be paired with skirts and lehengas, and even palazzo pants. It can be paired with dupattas and capes to make an Indo-western ensemble.”
