The place is probably the most easiest to find. Located on the second floor of Phoenix Market City, Kurla, Mad Over Fish is nestled with other fine dining restaurants on the floor. We dropped in on a Sunday evening to find it surprisingly empty with just two other tables occupied, making us doubt our decision, however, we would later realise that our fears were unfounded.

As we entered, our attendant escorted us to a spacious four seater, although we were just two. As we settled into the plush sofas, upon scanning the place we saw that the interiors weren’t appealing. But the low lights and comfy seating lent a warm aura, much to our liking.

Once settled, we ordered the Cream Of Tomato Soup (₹165) and Stuffed Bombil (₹325). Their menu also included prawns, squids and crabmeat. The tanginess of the soup was too intense, overpowering any other flavour that could have been present, making it difficult to finish the bowl. The fish on the other hand was a delight. Fleshy Bombay duck marinated in garlic and coriander, deep-fried in seasoned batter, resulted in a crisp exterior and a smile on our faces. Our attendant enthusiastically suggested we order their Jal Jeera Soda (₹60). So, we ordered two and although there wasn’t anything extraordinary about the drink, it was refreshing.

Excited to dig into more seafood, we ordered our mains — Hyderabadi Machchi (₹395) with Steamed Rice (₹150) and Fish Hariyali Pulao (₹350). We had an option of choosing from three to four types of fish, and we went with king mackerel (surmai) for the first and basa for the latter. The king mackerel came soaked in a gravy with bold flavours of spices, basil, coriander and mint. The pulao didn’t disappoint either, not much can go wrong with aromatic basmati rice in tangy and spicy flavours paired with caramelised onions — we licked this one clean.

Post our gluttonous eating, there was barely any space for desserts so we skipped it. This place is for all fish lovers, especially ones looking for authentic Indian flavours. The staff is courteous and attentive, we didn’t have to look up for more than a couple of seconds to get their attention. The prices too are reasonable. All in all, the place is a good option to go out with your family for a satisfying meal that won’t burn a hole in your pocket.
