‘DON’T LET FEAR STOP YOU’

Kirti Kulhari says one should believe in oneself; adds her husband helped her get over apprehensions about doing bold scenes

- Kavita Awaasthi

There is a certain freedom you feel when you work with a women-centric crew,” says Kirti Kulhari, who had a blast shooting for her recently released web series. The show focuses on four girlfriends and their love lives and Kirti did wonder if there would be ego clashes between the four female actors but she was in for a surprise. She says, “I think too much is made of women who work together don’t get along. I was glad to see that it was an easy experience and fun working with all the women. We all felt a sense of liberation while discussing the subject or scenes at hand. ”

As the web show deals with the sex lives of the characters and goes into a bold space, Kirti did have some reservations. She says, “My parents are open-minded and understanding but I have a large extended family too. In fact, I was wondering about how others would react to my intimate scenes in the show and my character, and how I would respond to their queries. But my husband told me to not focus on what others will say. Though talking about sex openly is still a taboo in India, he and my in-laws were chilled out about the subject. That gave me a lot of strength to get over the silly fear of log kya kahenge. Now I know that the fear of something is worse than the reality. Don’t let the fear stop you. After the show came out, not one person questioned me about it. In fact, I have got positive responses from everyone I have spoken to about it. I think you should take a chance and believe in yourself and maybe even inspire someone in life.”

The actor is also shooting for the web show Bard of Blood, produced by Shah Rukh Khan, starring Emraan Hashmi and has recently wrapped up Mission Mangal. She is also excited about her upcoming short film which is a story about a mother and daughter. “This is my first short film and I didn’t look at it as two to three day’s work. I wanted to tell the story effectively and I got into the mind and emotions of the

character.”
