Richa Chadha says comedy is her favourite genre and that she’s been actively trying to do more in the comic space.

It has been a week of great love and accolades for Richa Chadha whose last film, Section 375, opened to rave reviews, becoming the year’s highest rated film on IMDB (Internet Movie Database). After her solid performance as Hiral Gandhi in Section 375, her next film is Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai, in which she plays the role of Softie, a commercial sex worker. The film, directed by Anubhav Sinha, is a black comedy and is touted as a modern age Jaane Bhi Do Yaro (1983).

A source close to the actor says, “The film’s tone particularly appealed to Richa, who has a penchant for satirical humour. Though instantly drawn to the part, perfecting the character was a challenge for the actor, who took it up with all her gusto. Anubhav, who has given two fantastic films — Mulk (2018) and Article 15 — is uniting with Richa.”

Talking about it, the actor says, “I’m doing all sorts of roles now. These are going to explore all facets of my personality. I’m doing this comedy part for a movie with Anubhav Sinha. I play a character called Softie who has a lisp when she talks. Comedy is my favourite genre and I thoroughly enjoy it. In fact, I have been actively trying to do more in the comic space, which is why I dived headfirst into stand-up for a special show as well. After Section 375, I am glad that the next film people will see me in, will be so different.”

She will also be seen in Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s next film, Panga.
