NASEER SIR TAUGHT ME EVERYTHING ABOUT THEATRE: AHANA
Playing the on-screen daughter of Amitabh Bachchan in the television series, Yudh, at the beginning of her career is nothing less than an achievement. Actor Aahana Kumra has been a part of hits such as Lipstick Under My Burkha (2017), Inside Edge and many more. She started her career on stage when she was 14, and is known for plays such as By George, Arma And The Man, Dekh Behen and Rebecca to name a few. With Sir Sir Sarla being staged once more, the actor shares that she is still excited about it.
Aahana has been a part of the play for seven years now. Talking about it, she says, “My role in Sir Sir Sarla is of a student, who falls in love with her professor, and she is very important and integral to their lives and anybody who has ever seen the play would become a part of this family. People have been watching the play for so many years now, I know some people from the audience who never miss a show. That validates my beliefs in theatre and also my performance.”
The play is directed by senior theatre actor-director, Makarand Deshpande and Aahana says that she owes her stage career to him. “I know Makarand sir for a long time now. Working with him has always been a sheer pleasure. So many people wait to learn from him. He is such a giving co-actor and director. Anything and everything I know about the stage is because of Naseer (Naseeruddin Shah) sir, Ratna (Pathak Shah) ma’am and Makarand sir. I owe this to them,” adds Aahana, who is recuperating from dengue.
