After receiving immense appreciation for his short films — Hiroshima, Azaad and Elementa, Chandan Roy Sanyal has now directed and produced a long-short film called, So Sicily. It is a romantic fantasy and social satire about a man who travels to Sicily, Italy to meet a girl.

Chandan, who has directed many plays including Sakharam Binder, Ashad Ka Ek Din and Waiting for Godot, shot the film in 23 days across Spain and Italy with a small crew of just three people . He aims to take this long-short film into the festival circuit and release it on a respected platform.

The Kaminey (2009) actor, says, “I am heavily inspired by filmmakers like Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoor, MS Sathyu and John Cassavetes. Cinema is changing and I am glad I can make my own films without diluting the process at any stage. So Sicily is a pun on the social network. We also shot some of the major portions of the film in Sicily.”

Talking about the experience of shooting the film, he says, “It was pretty adventurous. My co-director and I thought of the story and then I wrote the screenplay and asked a friend of ours, a DOP who recently shot Panga, to shoot it. We planned the trip and shot in Barcelona, Rome, Madrid and Sicily on a phone. I also plan to direct a movie soon. I have a few scripts ready.”
