The Raaz franchise was perhaps, one of the first few films to have seen success in the horror genre in the 2000s. When not many heroines experimented with horror, Bipasha Basu Singh Grover decided to experiment with the genre and became a part of the film back in 2002.

Elaborating on her reasons to foray into the horror space, she says, “The supernatural and black magic element made it very entertaining. It’s my darkest role ever. Even I got scared while watching myself in the film. I thought I was far scarier than the ghost (laughs). But, I thought I did an awesome job in the film and my character was a huge reason for the success of Raaz 3.”

Bipasha adds that she couldn’t identify with her role in the film at all, and that it was a complex character to play at the time. “The effort and work put in by me was manifold. The only similarity was that I am a real life actor and my character, Shanaya, was also an actor in the film. She was driven by her fame. She thought another new actor’s fame was the reason for her downfall. She didn’t realise that it is the law of every business. When new people come in, it doesn’t have to mean that you are finished. You should welcome the new as you were new at some point, too. Your body of work evolves and changes with time. She didn’t have the intelligence to understand that and would stoop to any level for her idea of fame. So, it was also quite a relatable story,” says the actor
