A new watering hole in town
Shibuii, a property of Shizusan, is a Japanese aesthetic that draws upon beauty through silent, subtle and unobtrusive qualities. Any person, performance or an object can be considered Shibuii.
The Shibuii aesthetic is all about the beauty of life and everyday miracles of nature. Shibuii is designed with a purpose — to merge nature with day to day living. For example, the wave in the grain of a wooden table, the uneven texture of a tea pot, the solitary leaf in a sushi platter and the burnt orange garnish in a drink. About what Shibuii actually means, Rohit Aggarwal, director, Lite Bite Foods, says, “It is all about minimal materials that silently convey layers of meaning which is gradually revealed and realised through observation.”
Located in High Street Phoenix, Lower Parel, it is tucked away from the regular, mundane and chaotic hustle bustle of the city in particular and life in general. Shibuii is a personal haven of merriment and appreciation of the simplicity of life at one hand and yet the layered complexity on the other hand. All this is showcased in the design, music, food and cocktails served at Shibuii.
You enter Shibuii through a small door on the mezzanine, which has a small logo of Shibuii. The moment you climb up the stairs, a totally different world opens up to you. It is very different from the dining space downstairs — high ceilings, modern yet subtle design with soothing colours beckons you in, the high energy beats of deep house music from the DJ console set the tempo for an experience that will leave you wanting for more.
The menu focuses on small plates and nibble bowls brimming with South East Asian ingredients and flavours. There will be a selection of 10 to 15 dishes that complement the experience, and are unique to Shibuii. The regular menu is also available for guests should they want more. All the cocktails offered in the menu are unique to what is served at any of the Shizusan’s. Shibuii has its own cocktail menu.
