An eco-conscious citizen, Rubina Dilaik does her level best to conserve the environment. Every year, she takes up new resolutions, ideas and plans to do her bit for the environment. And since a year, she has been spearheading “a campaign”, as she puts it, wherein she asks her fans to plant a tree instead of sending her gifts.

“I receive a lot of love and adulation from fans. They send me gifts all through the year from all corners of the world on the special days in my life. They put their heart and soul into making the gifts and cards, and getting them delivered. So, I thought that I’d ask them to do one act of kindness or charity on my birthday, rather than sending me gifts. I asked them to help someone in need by counselling or providing them with monetary support,” shares the 30-year old.

But that’s not all. She also urged them to plant a tree on her wedding anniversary. Rubina told them that she would dedicate her anniversary (June 21) to the environment. “My husband, Abhinav (Shukla) is an adventurous person and we both love the outdoors. I wanted to do my bit towards our society.

One of my fans planted 11 trees on our first anniversary and others wrote to me saying that they planted trees as well. It was their gesture of love and it felt good and encouraging,” she says.

The actor also works on herself and has personal goals and resolutions too. She reveals that every year, she “tries to not be the same person” she was last year and makes changes in her life, personality and surroundings. She says, “I work on habitual and emotional changes which, at times, become a block and stop me from reaching a higher level. I also believe in making goals for myself. Barring the personal ones, I can share that last year, I decided to work out at least four days a week for my mental well-being. I enjoyed doing yoga and callisthenics. I also decided to learn a new form of art or skill.

I also took my parents on an international trip. So, I try to stick to the goals I choose and take baby steps towards them, keeping in mind the bigger goals of my life.” She never talks about the changes she plans in herself and hopes that her “friends and family notice the changes instead”.
