After a hiatus of five years, Aamna Sharif has returned to acting. During her break, the Kahiin Toh Hoga actor got married and had a baby and now is seen on a popular ongoing TV show, essaying the role of Komolika. Aamna’s reasons for playing the role are primarily about getting out

of her comfort

zone. She says, “Every actor should definitely play a character that shakes you out of your comfort zone and makes you question whether you’re capable of playing a role that is against the image that the audience has of you. And if you succeed, it gives you utmost satisfaction as an actor. That is one of the main reasons that I took up this role, apart from the fact that it’s an iconic character to play on screen.”

Her good friend and mentor, Ekta Kapoor was another reason for her to return to acting, she admits. “I have never been a person who has a set plan in motion for anything. I believe in instincts and gut feelings. I will continue doing good work based on those virtues. Of course, Ekta being the producer of the show is the icing on the cake. Every association of ours has been history starting from Kahiin Toh Hoga to Ek Villain (2014). She is the best at tapping my potential to the fullest,” Aamna says.

She replaced Hina Khan, who was loved by audiences in the negative role, but Aamna is sure of making her own mark, too. “It is never easy replacing an actor. Hina is a hard working person and a wonderful actor and she has really played the role with such excellence. Rather than feeling that I am replacing anyone, I feel glad to get an opportunity to play such a larger-than-life role. I would do my best,” says the actor.

Aamna also did a number of films and was appreciated in Ek Villian. Now she will be seen in Roohi Afza. Talking about her film career, she shares that today the lines

between films, television and digital have blurred. “When I debuted in movies, the transition was still in its nascent stage, so I didn’t get the kind of movies I wanted to be a part of. Ek Villain definitely made people notice of me as an actor. Now, in my second innings, you’ll see more of me on all mediums,” she adds.
