Fatima set to show off her funny side

- Rishabh Suri

Actors are always up for experimenting with different genres, only to prove their versatility. And exploring uncharted shores and pushing herself now is actor Fatima Sana Shaikh. Her previous Bollywood outings have been action and dramapacked roles in Dangal (2016) and Thugs of Hindostan (2018) and she is now set to unleash her funny side with Saif Ali Khan in Bhoot Police.

Many actors have revealed that comedy is a serious business, and how it’s actually tough to make people laugh. Though a bit nervous initially, we hear that Fatima took the challenge and is prepping hard for the same. We reach out to Fatima to know how she’s going about it, and she says, “I’ve been involved in multiple reading sessions with our director Pavan Kirpalani and the writer Pooja. Bhoot Police as a horror comedy genre is exciting to explore because the process is slightly different from my past preps (for drama and action).”

While Dangal expected Fatima to learn wrestling, Thugs saw her pull off stunts. Both pushed her physically, and hence, a source reveals, Fatima wanted to prove that she can pull off comedy as well. She also has an Anurag Basu film in her kitty touted to be an anthology of sorts.

What’s interesting to note is that Fatima’s inspiration and favourites in the comic sphere include Kamal Haasan, who had played her father in the film Chachi 420 (1997), where she was a child artist. “I enjoy watching Akshay Kumar, Kamal Haasan, Johnny Lever, Paresh Rawal and Om Puri for their comic timing. It’s a treat to watch them; they are that amazing! This role has come to me at the right time. I want to explore different characters and genres now,” adds the 27-year-old.
