Sobhita Dhulipala says that she doesn’t have to audition anymore. She is now called for narrations. “I stress on readings because I want the director and crew members to be completely sure of casting me. I shouldn’t be anybody’s recommendation. I want to be proud of having earned the part on my merit,” she says and adds that she hopes to do a sports biopic and a period drama.

Sobhita Dhulipala became an overnight sensation with the web show Made In Heaven. The last few months have been nothing short of a dream for the young actor who was also seen in Bard Of Blood. Known for taking on experimental roles, she believes in doing things her way. “I’ve always wanted to do projects that mean something to me irrespective of whether my parts are small or big. I wanted to make choices that I could be proud of and learn from.

That obviousl y comes with its own share of risks because they might not take off or garner as much public reception. But it’s very motivating when you stick to your gut and do something. I’m ready to do anything but it has to be on my own terms,” Sobhita shares.

Does she notice a change in the way the industry has changed its perception about her? “I want to look at it in a positive way and not sulk while thinking that they didn’t care about me before and now there’s such a switch. Maybe it’s a very natural thing. People didn’t have any expectation from me which is why I could do whatever I wanted to. I could put all my energy and passion into my work without thinking about anything which is fun and thrilling. I don’t want to work thinking that a certain filmmaker may consider me to be a prospect for their next film. I’m genuinely not interested in being liked or not liked and I don’t mean it in a rebellious way at all,” she elaborates.

Gone are the days of auditions and look tests for the actor. Sobhita says that she’s now called for narrations but for her, readings are important. “I stress on readings because I want the director and crew members to be completely sure of casting me. I shouldn’t be anybody’s recommendation. I want to be proud of having earned the part on my merit,” she explains.

Ask her about her dream role and she excitedly says, “I hope I get to do a sports biopic and a period drama. I hope I can get to play a sportsperson. We haven’t seen women doing good quality action on screen. I want to do that. It’s a very exciting and curious space for me.”

When asked about her game plan ahead, she emphasises on the importance of being true to herself. “It’s very important to me that someone should be authentic to their own characters. I want all of us to be the maximum version of their own characters and be comfortable in their own skins. That’s what I fight for. Nobody in the world wants to take the harder path which is more difficult and less rewarding on purpose. I have an artiste’s heart and I can’t help it,” she signs off with a smile.
