Ihave not quit my show,” reveals Rubina Dilaik, talking about her ongoing hit TV drama while refuting reports that she will no longer be a part of the show due to a time leap. She adds, “Let’s see how the story unfolds and how things move forward. This is a transition period, so I can’t say that I am completely detached from the show. There is a chance that my character might return but we will have to wait for the leap.”

Having played the role of a mother to a young kid on the show, Rubina claims she has no reservations playing mom to a teenager or an older daughter on TV. She says, “Till the time the role is in the driving seat, I don’t mind the age of the role. As an actor, it is about the character and I have passed the stage and age of being a glamorous heroine and doing a love story. That’s why I took up this show as it was based on the life of a transgender. I won’t mind playing mother to an older girl if my role has substance on the show.”

Rubina began her career in 2008 with the show, Chhoti

Bahu – Sindoor Bin Suhagan which ran for two years and returned with a sequel a year later. The show got the actor immense popularity. But now, she admits that the current serial’s success has surpassed her earlier fame. “It is my longest running show and has resurrected my career. It has given me amazing memories and I’m grateful for this opportunity. In my 11 years of acting, I have seen a lot of growth in myself as an actor and I’m satisfied with that,” she says.

“I want to do better in the future and test my abilities. I had to unlearn a lot in my career for the show. Before my current show, I was away from the industry for two years because the tag of ‘Chhoti Bahu’ was still stuck to me as the show was re-running on many channels,” she says, adding, “It never went away from people’s minds and it deterred my chances of getting a good role. It took a while to break the mould of the dutiful bahu. I then decided to unlearn whatever I did in the past and the rawness of a performance has worked well for me in my career,” she concludes.
