I will be meeting women and children, who are suffering from cancer. I will also try to make the moment memorable for them and genuinely add value in their lives. TAHIRA KASHYAP,

WRITER-DIRECTOR

Iam an excited birthday person, even if I don’t throw a party on my birthday,” says writer-director Tahira Kashyap, who turns a year older today. “I want to celebrate every moment in life and I have really started to appreciate life. I value each day and have a lot of gratitude. I will have a small get-together with my friends, who have been a source of strength for me. I also plan to celebrate the day with cancer patients and hope to inspire them with my journey,” she says, recalling that as she was an only child, her parents would make a fuss over her birthday and wish her almost a month in advance.

Tahira was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy in November 2018. Last year, she had a birthday celebration after her last chemotherapy session and she reveals that she celebrated like there was no tomorrow. “I had a party for 30 friends and I was the only bald head bopping at the venue. I will continue to celebrate this year, the only difference being I have hair on my head this time,” the 37-yearold quips.

This year, Tahira wants to help others going through a tough phase in their lives. “Sometimes, we can help people by talking to them and spending quality time with them. I will be meeting women and children who are suffering from cancer. I will also try to make the moment memorable for them and genuinely add value in their lives. I want to tell them to not feel defeated and live their lives to the fullest,” she shares. Tahira is also glad that her actorhusband Ayushmann Khurrana won’t be shooting and will be in the city to bring in her birthday. She says, “Every year, he is either shooting or at some award function but this year, he is not travelling, so we will be together. Now, I have learnt that the trailer of his next film will drop on my birthday, so I guess, I will once again prove to be his good luck charm (laughs).”

On the work front, after directing a short film, Toffee, she has directed another one called Pinni, starring Neena Gupta. It is produced by Guneet Monga. “I have another short lined up as well. I want to make 2020 my year as I have some exciting things planned. I am still working on my debut feature film and hope to begin work this year,” she signs off.
