AT THE PARIS COUTURE WEEK, SONAM K AHUJA WORE A SARI TUXEDO HYBRID BY FRENCH DESIGNER JEAN PAUL GAULTIER WITH A BINDI PUTTING THE ‘DON’T-MESS-WITH-ME’ SILHOUETTE ON THE STYLE MAP.

Amono lapel enveloping one shoulder while artfully exposing the collar bones seems to be on the mood board of Bollywood stylists of late. Recently, at Paris Couture Week, Sonam K Ahuja wore a sari tuxedo hybrid by Jean Paul Gaultier with a bindi putting the ‘don’tmess-with-me’ silhouette on the style map. The likes of Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Sonakshi Sinha have opted for ensembles which married structured tailoring with fluid silhouettes. “It’s a radical twist to the regular neckline lending it sharpness thus asserting the stronger feminine side of the wearer,” says stylist Allia Al Rufai.

Internationally, the trend has been popular for a while with labels like Monse, Jacquemus and Balmain redefining new-age femininity with a powerful yet polished take. Stylist Akshay Tyagi hails this trend as corporate with twist. “Or call it red carpet with a hint of power dressing. Designers are always looking at introducing a new silhouette and this trend is their way of reinventing the blazer. It’s going back to the essence of tailoring and playing with new shapes and forms,” he says.

The mono lapel pieces are doing the rounds with different silhouettes — at times in form of jumpsuits or dresses. Stylist Eshaa Amiin notes that the sharp lapel adds a defining touch to the overall silhouette and brings out the formidable side of the wearer. “The one shoulder is sexy and works perfectly for events where you need to be formal yet sexy,” she says .
