It is going to be a low-key birthday for Varun Sharma

- Titas Chowdhury

Varun Sharma is excited to be stepping into club 30 today. The actor, who is busy shooting for his upcoming project, squeezed in some time during the schedule so as to celebrate the big day with his family. Divulging details on his low-key birthday celebration this year, he says, “I, along with my mother and sister, are in Goa. It’s like a quick getaway for two days as I’ll have to get back to work. My sister recently got married and so we’ve been in celebration mode over the past few weeks. Therefore, I planned on keeping my birthday a quiet celebration.”

So, is he scared of turning 30? “No, I’m the kind of person who

enjoys every moment of life. You need to embrace your age and be happy about it. Age isn’t something that’s in our control. As I’m entering the 30s club, I plan on becoming wiser and more mature, and I pray that a sense of thoughtfulness sinks in,” Varun shares.

Rewinding to his childhood, the Chhichhore (2019) actor fondly reminisces the way his birthdays would be celebrated. “Back then, we used to have landline phones. Birthday parties would be celebrated at home and they were all about cakes, samosas and puffs. We used to wear these birthday hats with frills on them. At school, we used to distribute chocolates and toffees to the entire class. Everybody in the class used to make me feel so special on my birthday,” he says.

Ask him about his birthday ritual and he says, “I’ve never spent a birthday alone. Even if I’m travelling with friends, I make sure that I take time out and spend it with my family. Wherever I’m in the world, my family comes to meet me or I go home.”

Varun says that he plans on giving himself a Hellenic holiday soon. As he steps into a new decade in his life, he says, “I would like to go for a social media detox for a few hours every day and spend more time with my family and myself. We tend to lose touch with ourselves because of our busy schedules and I believe it’s important to reconnect with oneself. Right now, I’m busy working, but whenever I’ve the time, I would love to gift myself a holiday to Greece and spend a good 15 days there. I also hope that I continue to look as cute as I did in my 20s (laughs).”
