B-Town keeps up with the classic white and gold
Here’s deciphering the classic pairing that keeps stealing hearts with timeless grace
White and gold is such a trend-neutral and ageless combo that it makes its presence felt on the red carpet every now and then. Remember Sara Jessica Parker’s gold reflectors worn with a monochromatic day dress in Sex and The City? Or just take a look at the recent pap shots of Janhvi Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma, and one could vouch that this pairing always makes the right kind of noise.
While Anushka Sharma accessorised a balloon-sleeved white mini dress with a stack of rose gold bracelets, Janhvi Kapoor teamed her white pantsuit with a gold bracelet. Deepika Padukone, too, hit all the right style notes while offsetting her mono-hued ensemble with a pair of gold dangler earrings. At the recently concluded Paris couture week, too, designer Maria Grazia Chiuri presented her goddess-like models in white and gold combos at the Christian Dior show.
Designer duo Sukriti and Aakriti hail this pairing as a win-win situation. “The calming effect of white and the warm, welcoming charm of gold is an easy pick. It’s creamy with warm undertones that enhance the richness of gold while still staying true to white. Either wear a white dress and put on gold earrings or opt for a white lehenga and accessorise it with antique gold jewellery,” says Sukriti Grover.
Designer Suman B roots for a white tank top paired with gold accessories as one of the coolest looks. “You can be experimental with a pair of gold shorts and your favourite white shirt. You can also add a sheer gold cover-up over an all-white monotone look to add that edge. This paradoxical clash of minimal white with maximalist gold can be very chic,” says Suman.
