‘FITNESS IS NEVER ABOUT A CERTAIN SIZE’
Angad Bedi says other than eating right, inculcating the habit of working out is essential for a healthy body and suggests natural ways for fitness enthusiasts
One of the fittest actors in the industry, Angad Bedi has played many roles that require high levels of fitness — be it as an army man in the film Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), a soldier in the upcoming Janhvi Kapoorstarrer to his latest web show, Inside Edge season 2. The actor has now been approached by fitness centres to deliver motivational talks to their members. He has received requests from over 10 gyms, fitness centres and even cricketing institutes to discuss how he remains fit. And Angad is super kicked about such opportunities and hopes to take a breather from his hectic shooting schedule to commit to this.
Talking about fitness, Angad, son of former spin legend Bishan Singh Bedi, says, “Everyone believes in having a body built on supplements to flash on Instagram. But I feel fitness for the soul is playing a sport. I respect the sporting culture I have grown up with. It taught me rhythm, hand-eye coordination and team work. I am aware and alert because of that training. It helped me get better cardiovascular muscles. There’s no longevity to the gym culture. It won’t last when
people are in their 60s. Legends are not created in gyms; but on the ground by putting in the hours. Having a great body is futile if you don’t have core strength. One should not aim to have six-pack abs but aim for good quality of life, exercise is sacrosanct.”
The actor is grateful to have grown up in a house where “fitness is not a choice but a way of living”. Angad believes in natural ways to achieve the level of fitness he desires. He adds, “It’s never about being a certain size but more about being healthy. Eating right is a huge part of it but more importantly, it’s about inculcating the habit of working out. It’s important to value desi nuskhas. I prefer eating dates or bananas over protein shakes. I don’t believe in diet fads. A body should have both strength and agility and that comes from maintaining a balanced diet. For me, no matter how busy I am or how caught up I am, the day doesn’t feel right if I don’t do a basic workout. It’s almost a habit and I feel everyone should have this habit.”
