Running around: Saiyami’s prepping for a triathlon

- Titas Chowdhury

Nowadays, Saiyami Kher is training hard to participate in an Ironman Triathlon, which will take place in The Netherlands a few months down the line. She’s the only Indian actor who will be participating in the event that requires contestants to prove their fitness levels by engaging in swimming, cycling and running. Talking about it, she says, “I’ve been participating in marathons for the past three to four years now. This year, I wanted to push my physical and mental limits. I’ll be swimming 2kms, cycling 90kms and running 21kms. It’s a completely different ball game. I’ve been training for the past one-and-a-half months. I’ll have to see how I can manage the next two months of crucial training as I also begin shooting for my upcoming film.”

The Mirzya (2016) actor says that it’s important to follow a certain fitness regime, especially if one is an actor. She explains,

“An actor’s life is unpredictable because we’ve late hours and early morning shifts and we’re shooting in tough conditions sometimes. You can indulge, once in a while, in moderate proportions, but if you manage to be consistent with your food and eat healthy, then you can stay healthy, too. In order to focus on yourself, you need to have the discipline that comes from having a sports background.”

Saiyami, who’ll soon be seen in Anurag Kashyap’s project, stresses on the importance of exercising and playing a sport as it is an effective tool to battle depression. “Unhealthy food habits and intense stress is something that every human being is suffering from these days. Exercising and playing a sport keeps you mentally fit too, as it teaches you discipline, and staying committed to a certain goal and accepting failure. Even if you walk every day, it’ll keep you mentally strong. Today, when depression is on the rise, the answer to that can be found in exercise. It’s the cheapest therapy there is,” she signs off.
