Actors are subjected to unpredictability: Karan
In June 2019, Karan V Grover was looking forward to his new TV drama — one that he had signed after a hiatus, but now, news is that it will wrap up after being on air for nine months. “It has been disappointing to know that a show that was doing so well is shutting in less than a year,” says Karan. The actor adds that it was a huge surprise for everyone on the set and apparently the ratings were “not satisfactory”. “But if the network feels the ratings were not up to the mark, then we respectfully accept the decision. Of course, you feel a bit bad as you put in a lot of hard work and expected the show to run longer. This is a first for me that one of shows is being yanked off air,” he says.
The actor, who is known for his roles in TV shows including Saarrthi, Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, Yahaaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli and Bahu Hamari Rajni Kant, rose to fame with the popular comedy sketches costarring Chaavi Mittal. Being an actor, he feels unpredictability is the nature of the profession. “We are subjected to unpredictability and uncertainty, who are our best friends (laughs). It is something you have to be completely comfortable with if you want to survive, work and flourish in this industry,” he opines.
While a lot is said about luck, talent and grit to make it as an actor in the entertainment industry, not much is said about mental strength. Karan agrees that one needs that in abundance in this profession. “Mental strength is the base of it all. You can keep working on the talent as one keeps reinventing in the attempt to be better than before or as per roles that come your way. But being mentally strong and being comfortable with uncertainty is the backbone of being an actor,” he signs off.
