I CAN’T WORK ON A LOOP, SA AYS KAREENA
The actor says that today, she’s ‘much more comfortable in her space’, and prefers to say yes to a film only when she can give her 100%
Apar t from her drop-dead gor geous looks, the othe er thing that inst tantly strikes you about Kar reena Kapoor Khan is her candid d demeanour. Whether iit’s talking movies or staying re elevant for two decades, sshe isn’t pretentious. “I pick up scripts which would entertain my fans, and say yes to the kind d of movies that they would like e to see me in,” she begins, as s we sit down to chat with her i n the living room of her Bandr ra apartment, which is adorned d with books and gorgeous pictures with husband SSaif Ali Khan.
To mak ke her case, the actor points out t, “Like I did Good Newwz (20 019) because it told a story of a woman who wants to ave a chi ild in a particular tuation, , or Angrezi Medium here I play p a cop. It’s not a big rol le, but it’s still part of a rel levant film and an atth haracter tempt to play that a I’ve not ortrayed before. I elieve, acting has a lot do d with the ve ention of mind rather phy ysicality.”
The actor credits her husband for this change. “We talk about work but there are times when he tells me about letting it go. He often tells me that the tag of being ‘super successful’ won’t last but that of a ‘great actor’ will. Apart from that, travelling, reading books has helped, as it’s refreshing,” says the 39year-old actor.
What sets her apart from her contemporaries is the fact that despite the high and lows in her career, she has not only managed to stay relevant, but is detached from the rat race.
“As a person, I am very comfortable in my space. I’ve always been content with the choices I made in my career as well as my personal life. I don’t need to work constantly to feel like a star. I’m happy not to promote a film and just chill out and be with my son. I can’t work on a loop. I would like to do a film when I can give my 100%, ” she says.
Coming up next is Angrezi Medium with Irrfan. Quiz her about taking up a cameo, and she says, “I think this film is extra special because I had worked with all the Khans except Irrfan. When this op pportunity came in, I decided to o take it up, as I am not sure I’ d get another chance to work with him. He is such a fa antastic actor. The energy hat h he brings in a shot, adds a ot of weightage to my erformance. I have few cenes, but I’m confident that his character will be re emembered and it will de efinitely be a feather in my ca ap. The film has an amazing en nsemble cast and I felt ho onoured to be a part of this te eam,” she says.
