After garnering a good response for his performance in Dibakar Banerjee’s short in the horror anthology Ghost Stories, Gulshan Devaiah is now looking forward to an exciting couple of months ahead of him. With the release of his latest web show Afsos, he has busied himself with director Reema Kagti’s thriller Fallen that costars Sonakshi Sinha. The actor says in recent times, he has noticed a distinct change in the audience’s perception of content.

He says, “I take time to give my nod to a project, and I don’t agree to everything that comes my way. I am striving to strike the balance between creativity and money. I want to feel like I can give my life to a movie or a character. I haven’t reached a point where I have to do a show or a movie for money because I am broke. I try to maintain a balance between idealism and pragmatism as far as possible. I am satisfied with what is coming my way but at the same time, I am hungry for more.”

Gulshan feels that his role as the antagonist, Jimmy, in Mard

Ko Dard Nahi Hota (2018), gratified that people who do not have industry connect are now getting their due. “I want to surprise people with each outing. Today, craft matters more than the family name. There’s value for merit but just ‘being good’ is not good enough. Your craft and career are two different things, and they both need work to grow. Because the attention span of the audience is low, you have to learn how to put yourself out there. Sometimes, you just have to win over one person at a time,” he signs off.
