The unexpected Asian delight

At Meishi, the Asian restaurant, located at The Park in Juhu, we were greeted by a cluster of gold glass bubbles suspended from the ceiling, near the reception area. While it was all quite charming to begin with, we had to wai it at the reception for about ha alf an hour, despite a reservation. After we finally ally entered the restaurant, we noticed grey chairs and a private dining room space enclosed in gold chain curtains. Black, grey, and orange walls make up this space, which can accommodate up to 50 people. One could say that the decor is unfussy, stylish and tastefully done. But at the same time, someone else might say that there is a lack of stereotypical Asian vibe.

We started with cocktails and tried the Sake Mary (₹850). It was a well-balanced mix of sake with peppercorns, grapes and honey. All the flavours were different and did not overpower each other. The presentation was quite refreshing, too. We also tried the Som Tum Sling (₹850), which had gin, Thai chilli, black pepper syrup and green papaya. Distinctly spicy, it was a tad strong, but fresh nonetheless. Though, we did feel that the drinks were heavy on our pockets.

For starters, we picked Dragon Roll, Prawn Tempura with Spicy May on na Mayonnaise (₹950). Thee Dragon Roll was an insideout sushi roll, which was in the shape of a caterpillar, it was fascinating. There was a crunch to the rolls, which was rather delicious. Next up, it was time for some dimsums! However, our order, the Spicy Lobster, Yellow Chilli (₹695), was average and didn’t really live up to our expectations. We have surely had better dimsums before, which certainly did not burn a hole in our pockets.

For the main course, we chose Steamed Red Snapper, Superior Soy, Jasmine Rice (₹795). The portion was generous, therefore, it filled our tummies. As far as taste is concerned, we were largely satisfied with it. The red snapper was soft, simple

and literally melted in our mouths. It complemented well with rice. The soy, which acted as the gravy, was a little too sweet for our appetite. But overall, it did make for a comfy and cosy meal. The presentation was minimal.

We would have ordered desserts, but we couldn’t for two reasons. One, we were already quite full; second, we ran out of budget. Meishi is definitely expensive. But, on the whole, the food has our main craving covered, which is soul-soothing. The menu is concise yet ample, ranging from sushi to Bhutanese datshi. The service could be faster and more attentive, but an Asian food lover could be in for an unexpected treat here.
