Punjabi singing sensation and actor Jassie Gill marked his acting debut in the Hindi film industry with Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi in 2018. Early this year, his performance in his second Hindi film, Panga, won him wide critical acclaim. Going ahead, he plans to be part of realistic films so as to strike a deeper chord with the audience. “Back in the day, I used to watch very few films. But the kind of films and concepts I liked were the ones that were rooted in reality and resonated with our lives. I would like to keep doing realistic films in the future so that the audiences feel like we’re telling their stories on the screen,” he says.

Gill is known for his romantic films in the Punjabi film industry. He shares that he would like to explore the same genre in Bollywood as well. He says, “I would like to be part of romantic musicals. I have sad and romantic songs to my credit and I believe that the genre suits me. But, yes, all this depends on the kind of opportunities that I receive.”

He explains why he’s happy sticking to his forte for the time being and not going overboard experimenting with various subjects and themes. “I don’t want to experiment too much. I just want to prove my talent and worth. I’ll do something different once I prove myself in my comfort zone,” he says.

Ask him about his game plan and he says that his bucket list is all about working with “amazingly talented people”. He shares, “So far, I’ve had the good fortune of working with some great actors and directors. Since I didn’t come from an acting background, my films have been my learning ground. I got to learn a lot from interacting and performing with actors like Sonakshi (Sinha) and Jimmy (Sheirgill), among others, and directors like Mudassar (Aziz) sir and Ashwinyi (Iyer Tiwari) ma’am.”
