The Is another lockdown cases? solution for rising

MUMBAI RESIDENT

- Nishad Neelambaran

UDAY SHETTY,

The government should implement the lockdown if people keep behaving in such a callous manner. It’s our duty to be socially responsible.

Expressing concern over a constant rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in Mumbai and Maharashtra, the state government has warned it will impose another lockdown in the city – if people continue to violate safety protocols. Though this comes at a time when normalcy was slowly returning to the financial capital, yet, Mumbaikars believe that safety has to be given the topmost priority.

MK Unnikrishnan, 53, says, “It’s quite a shock to see that people haven’t learned things even the hard way. A lot has changed ever since Covid-19 struck the country and yet, we are back on the streets without any basic precautions. I believe, another lockdown will be the only option we, as people, give our government if this is the way we the citizens continue without social responsibility.”

Agreeing to this, Uday Shetty, a 63-year-old retired personnel, says, “The government should implement the lockdown if people keep behaving in such a callous manner. It’s our duty to be socially responsible and clearly, we are not.”

While some want the state to recover, there are also others who believe it is still a dangerous step to open up offices and other sectors.

Divya Prakashan, an IT employee, says, “Work from home has been the ‘new normal’ and I think we can continue with it for a while now. Starting the local trains was a risky call and I think we should restrict the movements in order to contain the spread of coronavirus.”
